Hoosac Harvest

EVERY PENNY COUNTS REDIRECTED:

Because of the complications with SNAP funding, we’ve temporarily refocused our round-up program so that all proceeds now go toward supporting food insecurity efforts - until further notice.

The co-op is excited to support Hoosac Harvest, an all‑volunteer program that helps Northern Berkshire residents access fresh, locally grown food through subsidized CSA shares. Your contribution ensures partner farms are paid in full and makes healthy, sustainable food affordable for families in our community.

About Hoosac Harvest

Hoosac Harvest was born of a project called Target Hunger, started in 2005 by the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.  It is an all-volunteer organization under the fiscal sponsorship of Berkshire Grown.  Our mission is to support and encourage access for Northern Berkshire residents across all income levels to sustainably raised, locally grown food produced through community supported agriculture (CSA), while building respect for relationships between the land, each other and our food.  A CSA farm is a relationship between a farmer and community members who participate in the success of the farm by purchasing produce shares from the farmer at the beginning of the growing season.  The farmer knows up front who their customer base is and has capital for seed, tools, etc when it is needed.  The farmer supports its members by growing food which is available to members on a weekly basis.  Hoosac Harvest makes the CSA experience accessible to all, regardless of income level, by fundraising to subsidize some of the shares.  We have worked with farms throughout the region, but are currently partnered with Full Well Farm in Adams and Many Forks Farm in Clarksburg.  Our clients are identified privately by the farmer and often contribute HIP or SNAP funding to the share price and generally pay 40% of the share price.  Hoosac Harvest assures that the farmer is paid in full up front.

Hoosac Harvest also offers a seedling exchange every springtime, where farmers and home gardeners can donate excess seedlings and exchange them for ones they do need.  And nominal donations are accepted for those who want to take seedlings.  A good time is had by all!
