We are proud to announce our August 2026 recipient is Elizabeth Freeman Center
When you round up, you’re directly supporting Berkshire residents each year - every penny truly makes a difference.
For over fifty years, Elizabeth Freeman Center has provided hope, safety, and healing to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Berkshire County.
With offices in North Adams, Pittsfield, and Great Barrington, as well as staff stationed in all Berkshire County courthouse, a 24/7 hotline, and counselors on-call for dispatch to hospitals and police stations, EFC meets survivors where they are. For survivors and their children fleeing immediate danger, EFC can provide safety planning and tools like safe phones, lock changes, or emergency shelter.
Recovery from abuse doesn't end when a survivor leaves, and neither do EFC’s services. Their comprehensive programming focuses on empowering survivors to heal and take control of their own futures. This includes:
Individual and group counseling, with specialized counselors available for LGBTQ survivors, immigrants, and survivors with disabilities
Financial and housing advocacy
Assistance obtaining protective orders and other legal concerns
Economic empowerment education and one-on-one advising through EFC’s Money School program
Age-appropriate counseling for children exposed to domestic violence
Supervised visitation
All EFC services are 100% free and 100% confidential, and are open to all regardless of gender, income, age, disability, languages spoken, or housing status.
In addition to these direct services, EFC also offers classroom sex and healthy relationship education training for teens, and is a regular presence at community outreach events across the county.
Last month, EFC launched its annual Rise Together campaign to raise awareness and funds for survivors in our community. Everyone is encouraged to register for free, create a personal fundraising page, and share it with friends. The event culminates with a series of three marches in Pittsfield, Lenox, and North Adams, where hundreds of supporters turn out to speak up against domestic and sexual violence in Berkshire County and beyond.
