ABOUT THE ARTIST: Julia Dixon is a contemporary representational painter based in western Massachusetts. Her work juxtaposes symbols hidden in Christian artworks and classical still lifes, particularly those of the Dutch Golden Age, with modern secular environments and nature to explore the emotional implications of presence and absence, fear, loneliness, and impermanence. Born in 1983, Dixon received her BFA from Purchase College, State University of New York, in 2005 and her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2014. Dixon received an Artist Fellowship in Painting from the Mass Cultural Council (2022), grants from Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s Martha Boschen Porter Fund (2023) and Artist’s Resource Trust Fund for Individuals (2021), and the Patricia Warfield Jinishian Figurative Award (2021) from the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, Connecticut.
