Benny - Coloring Contest Winner!

Congratulations to Benny, our March Compost Critters Coloring Contest winner!

We’re thrilled to learn that past winners inspired Benny to join the coloring fun at the Co-op - and we especially loved his reason for choosing coloring as a hobby: it doesn’t make him sweaty.

Benny stopped in with his family to enjoy his Field Day Organic shopping spree and fill his personalized bag with his favorite goodies. Before he even started shopping, he visited the Co+op Explorer Kids fruit stand and picked out a banana - a free piece of fruit kids receive each visit as part of the Co+op Explorer program, which he joined during his trip.

This month’s contest theme celebrates compost critters, and composting plays an important role in our community. Why compost?

• Reduces food waste and keeps valuable materials out of landfills

• Enriches local soil, helping gardens and farms grow healthier crops

• Supports a more resilient local food system

• Lowers greenhouse gas emissions by diverting organic matter from the waste stream

• Builds community awareness around sustainable everyday habits

Benny was purposeful and enthusiastic as he chose foods he loves. From cereal bars to peaches to sparkling cherry vanilla soda, Benny selected a colorful mix that matched his creativity.

At checkout, Benny officially signed up as a Co+op Explorer Kid and received his punch card, which helps young shoppers earn an activity book with each visit. Shaleese packed his personalized bag full of organic Field Day goodies, along with his coloring contest certificate, before he headed out with a big smile.

We’re happy to share these photos from his visit:

• Benny with his cart full of prize picks

• His items on the counter ready for checkout

• His custom-named Wild Oats Market bag

• Benny ready to head out with his bag, certificate, and Co+op Explorer punch card

• His winning Compost Critters coloring page

Interested in the fun? We invite all kids aged 12 and under to participate in the next Coloring Contest.
