My name is Mark Mulcahy.
I’ve been hired by your Board of Directors as the Interim General Manager to guide Wild Oats through the transitional period between the departure of former GM David Durfee and its hiring of a new General Manager. The search is on so please stay tuned.
I am the owner of Organic Options and a member of Columinate, which provides consulting services for Natural product retailers worldwide. I’ve been working in the Organic and Natural food industry for 35 years and consulting with stores of all sizes for over 24 of those, including over 22 co-ops in the New England states.
The wonderful staff has made me feel so welcome — even a local woodchuck poked his head into a meeting last week to let me know I had fully arrived!
My journey to be here with you began in California on June 24th and concluded with my arrival in Williamstown on July 6th. I camped along the way to limit my exposure to COVID as much as possible on my journey East. Here’s a couple of fun shots from the road.
You may be interested to know this isn’t the first time I’ve worked with Wild Oats. Several years back, I worked with Leigh-Anne to upgrade your co-op’s award-winning Produce department.
Over the next few months, I will work with the staff and the board to build the most financially and operationally sound co-op possible. And, I am here to build something with you as well.
I will use my strengths and experience to expand the conversation to include how we can be the best for each other and your community.
We will work through the current challenges with a focus on seeing them differently, encouraging curiosity, trying something new and empowering the staff to use their voice and question “why” or “why not.”
Personally, I love seeing the joy people experience when they try a new approach to a challenge that works and then makes their lives better.
I am eager to learn more about you and your community and create the best transition possible. I have already started to meet and talk with every staff member and plan to do the same with you.
When I’m not working on the budget, building new programs, and navigating the ever-changing marketplace, you will find me stocking shelves, bagging groceries or delivering curbside to our car.
If you have any questions, or just want to say hi, please feel free to reach out.
I look forward to meeting you.
