We gather for the annual membership meeting in late October, then suddenly we’re into the cheery bustle of Thanksgiving week, which in turn gives way to shopping for holiday gifts and festive meals in December. I often hear people say it’s their favorite time of year at the co-op.
Shortly though, 2020 will be upon us, and with it a couple of significant items to be looking out for.
First, during January we’ll be requesting your feedback in our biennial shopper survey. You should receive an email invitation with a link to the survey shortly after the first of the year. If you prefer to fill out a paper version, please ask for one at Customer Service. Everyone who takes the survey will be eligible to enter a drawing to win a $50 co-op gift card.
Second, in case you missed the earlier announcements, the co-op will be mailing out patronage rebates to eligible member-owners next month. When Wild Oats has had a profitable year financially, as we did in 2019, the board may elect to return a portion of the earnings to the owners. This marks the first such distribution in three years. Look for your rebate to arrive the third week of January—and then hurry in to Wild Oats to redeem it!
The amount of your rebate certificate is determined by how much you spent at the co-op between July 2018 and June 2019. Member households will be receiving a refund valued at 0.75 percent of their purchases (a couple of caveats: beer and wine sales aren’t eligible for the refund, and we don’t issue rebates for checks under three dollars). To make sure that you don’t miss out on future patronage refunds, be sure to keep your equity payments current, and let the staff know your name or member number every time you shop.
Speaking of which, last month we upgraded our computer system in an effort to make the equity payment process run more smoothly. Most member-owners will now be asked for an annual equity installment on the anniversary of their join date, instead of on July 1. Those who have reached $200 in equity won’t be asked for a payment.
Not a member-owner yet? You can join at any time and be eligible for all the benefits pertaining thereto—while supporting your community-owned grocery store and café.
Finally, please note that we’ll be closing early (at 6 p.m.) on Christmas Eve and again on New Year’s Eve to allow our staff a little more time with their friends and families those evenings. And we’ll be closed all day on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, so be sure to plan ahead!
Happy Holidays, everyone.
